-EMERGENCY SHELTER ALLOWANCE(ESA)

The Department of Human Services offers an Emergency Shelter Allowance, ESA, to help a homeless or near homeless family/individual to stop eviction, find a long-term place to live and find a short-term place to stay. This service helps ensure people experiencing financial hardship don't end up on the streets.
This program provides:
- Help pay for housing
Contact your County Assistance Office ask what you need to do to apply for an Emergency Shelter Allowance. If you are not receiving any benefits now, you must fill out an Application for Benefits.

Emergency Shelter HoursPittsburgh Mercy’s Emergency Shelter at Second Avenue Commons is open every day. Bed availability at the Emergency Shelter at Second Avenue Commons varies. We encourage you to come in person and speak to our team about what services are currently available. The Shelter is often at capacity.
